World’s favourite hotelier to lead Aberdeen Charity Event

One of the world’s leading hoteliers is to speak at a charity even in Aberdeen later this month.

Terry Holmes, voted the world’s favourite hotelier and a former winner of a Catey, (the Oscars of the hospitality industry) will speak at the Hospitality Industry Trust (HIT) Scotland Grampian Dinner on Thursday 26th of October.

Starting his career in the Dorchester, Terry has looked after some of the world’s most famous hotels across the UK, USA and Caribbean.  He holds the accolade of being the youngest person to manage a London west end hotel and has been a catering advisor to the British Army. He was voted the favourite Hotel Manager in the World by Virtuoso, an international network of travel experts, in 2002

Joining Terry as the master of ceremonies will be the irrepressible Peter Mitchell, local journalist and bon viveur . The evening also includes a set by Des Mclean, the comedian and award winning radio presenter. Guests will enjoy a special menu created by the Marcliffe Hotel and Spa.

Stewart Spence, chair of the HIT Scotland Grampian Committee and proprietor of the Marcliffe Hotel and Spa and said, “The evening is not just about raising money. The event has grown into an occasion when hospitality professionals from across the North East of Scotland congregate with a common purpose to raise the standards of our industry and to celebrate great hospitality.”

Now in its fifth year, the Grampian Dinner has become a must attend event for the hospitality industry in the region. So far, it has helped to raise over £50,000 for HIT Scotland’s emerging talent scholarship programme. This year’s event is sponsored by Keenan Recycling, B&M Waste Management, Wine Importers Scotland as well the Marcliffe Hotel.

Emerging talent scholarships provide life-changing experience to help individuals reach their potential and raise standards in the hospitality industry across Scotland. Applications for this year’s programme close on the 30th November and this year scholarships include working with Michelin starred chefs and placements in Dubai.
