Tim Minchin Former Edinburgh Fringe Winner Performs for Hospitality Industry

Date: 20/07/2010

Tim Minchin, the former Edinburgh Comedy awards best newcomer, is to perform for Scotland’s hospitality industry at a fundraising event in Glasgow.

Guests at the Hospitality Industry Trust (HIT) Scotland’s POETS Lunch will welcome the multi award winning comedian to the stage at the Radisson Blu on the 3rd of September.

Since picking up the then best newcomer Perrier award in 2005, Minchin has become one of the world’s favourite musical comedians. As well as regularly packing out auditoriums and winning awards, he has released three DVD’s and appeared on TV shows such as Never Mind the Buzzcocks.

No stranger to the world of hospitality Tim refined his unique style played regularly in the 40-seat cabaret room of TheButterflyClub in South Melbourne. His Piano based act takes on risqué topics like religion, relativism and canvas bags through song and conversation.

Over 450 guests are expected to attend the POETS lunch, an event with a reputation for booking unusual acts. Previous entertainment has come from the Lady Boys of Bangkok, Rick Wakeman and Four Poofs and Piano. This year, the event will welcome back regular host Tam Cowan.

All money raised from the event will support HIT Scotland Scholarship programme. Last year, over 160 students and talented people at all levels in the industry were offered fully funded career changing experiences. Previous scholars have gone behind the scenes of Michelin starred kitchens, to Ivy League Cornell University, enjoyed places at Europe’s top hospitality school and learnt from six star resorts in Dubai.

Jacqui McMillan, General Manager of the Novotel Glasgow and chair of the HIT Scotland POETS lunch committee said, “Like HIT Scotland the POETS lunch is about challenging ideas in hospitality and inspiring new thinking. Unusual performers like Tim have helped make the afternoon one the highlights in the hospitality industry’s social calendar.”

Tickets cost £65 each. Guests are advised to be quick as only four tables remain. For more information, visit
